Believing that certain things can bring benefit when the Creator has not made them so

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.

Some people believe in amulets and spells, or wearing certain types of pearls or seashells or metal earrings and so on, on the advice of fortune-tellers or magicians or in accordance with inherited customs. So they hang them around their own or their children’s necks to ward off the evil eye - or so they claim; or they tie them onto their bodies or hang them in their cars and homes, or wear rings with special stones, thinking that these things can relieve or ward off distress. This without a doubt is contrary to the idea of relying on Allaah, and will only result in making a person even more weak, like seeking medicine in a haraam way. These amulets obviously contain much shirk, such as seeking the help of some jinns and devils, or vague drawings and illegible writing. Hanging up these amulets or tying them to one’s body is haraam because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever hangs up an amulet is guilty of shirk.” (Reported by Ahmad, 4/156; see also Silsilat al-Saheehah, no. 492).

If the one who does this believes that these things can cause benefit or harm instead of Allaah, he is a mushrik who is guilty of al-shirk al-akbar. If he believes that they are a means of causing benefit or harm, then he is a mushrik who is guilty of al-shirk al-asghar, which includes shirk that consists of attributing causes to things other than Allaah.

Hadith of the day:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree." Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. And I thought of the date-palm tree but felt shy to answer the others then asked, "What is that tree, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "It is the date-palm tree."

Verse of the day:
Surah Al-Taghabun, verse 7 [64:7]

The disbelievers have asserted that they shall never be raised up from death. Say to them, Nay, by my Lord! You shall certainly be raised up; then certainly you shall be told what you have done (in the world), and this is an easy thing for Allah to do.

Cleanliness

In the name of Allah, The Merciful, the Compassionate.

Islam places great emphasis on cleanliness, in both its physical and spiritual aspects. On the physical side, Islam requires the Muslim to clean his body, his clothes, his house, and the whole community, and he is rewarded by God for doing so. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, for example:

"Removing any harm from the road is charity (that will be rewarded by Allah)." [Bukhari]
While people generally consider cleanliness a desirable attribute, Islam insists on it , making it an indispensible fundamental of the faith. A muslim is required to to be pure morally and spiritually as well as physically. Through the Qur'an and Sunnah Islam requires the sincere believer to sanitize and purify his entire way of life.

In Islam the Arabic term for purity is 'Taharah'. Books of Islamic jurisprudence often contain an entire chapter with Taharah as a heading.
Allah orders the believer to be tidy in appearance:

"Keep your clothes clean." [74:4]

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) advised the Muslims to appear neat and tidy in private and in public. Once when returning home from battle he advised his army:

"You are soon going to meet your brothers, so tidy your saddles and clothes. Be distinguished in the eyes of the people." [Abu Dawud]
On another occasion he said:
"Don't ever come with your hair and beard disheveled like a devil." [Al-Tirmidhi]
And on another:
"Had I not been afraid of overburdening my community, I would have ordered them to brush their teeth for every prayer." [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
Moral hygeine was not ignored, either, for the Prophet (pbuh) encouraged the muslims to make a special prayer upon seeing themselves in the mirror:
"Allah, You have endowed me with a good form; likewise bless me with an immaculate character and forbid my face from touching the Hellfire." [Ahmad]
And modesty in dress, for men as well as for women, assists one in maintaining purity of thought.
Being charitable is a way of purifying one's wealth. A Muslim who does not give charity (Sadaqah) and pay the required annual Zakah, the 2.5% alms-tax, has in effect contaminated his wealth by hoarding that which rightfully belongs to others.

All the laws and injunctions given by Allah and His Prophet (pbuh) are pure; on the other hand, man-made laws suffer from the impurities of human bias and other imperfections. Thus any formal law can only be truly just when it is purified by divine guidance - as elucidated by the Qur'an and the Sunnah - or if it is divinely ordained to begin with - the Shari'ah.

Hadith of the day:
'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Allah's Messenger said: Do not attribute lies to me, for anyone who attributes lies to me will be doomed to Hell-Fire.
Verse(s) of the day:
Surah-Al-Mulk , verse 1-4.
"Full of blessings is He in Whose hand is the Kingdom of the universe, and He has power over everything; Who created death and life that He may try you to see which of you is best in deeds, and He is All-Mighty as well as All-Forgiving; Who created seven heavens, one above the other. You will not see any fault in the creation of the Merciful. Turn up your eyes: do you see any flaw anywhere? Look up again and yet again: your look will return to you dis-appointed, wearied out".

Al-Quran

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

The Qur'an ("Qor-Ann") is a Message from Allah to humanity. It was transmitted to us in a chain starting from the Almighty Himself (swt) to the angel Jibrael (Gabriel) to the Prophet Muhammad (saw). This message was given to the Prophet (saw) in pieces over a period spanning approximately 23 years (610 CE to 622 CE). The Prophet (saw) was 40 years old when the Qur'an began to be revealed to him, and he was 63 when the revelation was completed. The language of the original message was Arabic, but it has been translated into many other languages.

The Qur'an is one leg of two which form the basis of Islam. The second leg is the Sunnah of the Prophet (saw). What makes the Qur'an different from the Sunnah is primarily its form. Unlike the Sunnah, the Qur'an is quite literally the Word of Allah, whereas the Sunnah was inspired by Allah but the wording and actions are the Prophet's. The Qur'an has not been expressed using any human's words. Its wording is letter for letter fixed by no one but Allah.

Hadith of the day:
"Ibn Mas`ud (RA) narrates that the Prophet (saw) said: "He who says: `Astaghfir ullah-alladhi la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayyumu, wa atubu ilaihi (I seek the forgiveness of Allah, there is no true god except Allah, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, and I turn to Him in repentance),' his sins will be forgiven even if he should have run away from the battlefield (while he was engaged in fighting for the Cause of Allah).''"
- Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Al-Hakim

Prophet Muhammad (saw) was the final Messenger of Allah to humanity, and therefore the Qur'an is the last Message which Allah has sent to us. Its predecessors such as the Torah, Psalms, and Gospels have all been superceded. It is an obligation - and blessing - for all who hear of the Qur'an and Islam to investigate it and evaluate it for themselves. Allah has guaranteed that He will protect the Qur'an from human tampering, and today's readers can find exact copies of it all over the world. The Qur'an of today is the same as the Qur'an revealed to Muhammad (saw).

Some words of advice

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

On the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas, who said:
One day I was behind the Prophet and he said to me:
"Young man, I shall teach you some words (of advice):
Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you.
Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him infornt of you.
If you ask, ask of Allah; if you seek help, seek help of Allah.
Know that if the Nation were to gather to benefit you with anything; it would benefit you only with something that Allah has already prescribed for you and that if they gather together to harm you with anything; they would harm you only with something that Allah has prescribed for you.
The pens have been lifted and the pages have been dried.
...Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you.
Get to know Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity.
Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you
And that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by .
And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship".

Hadith of the day:
Some people asked Allah's Apostle, "Whose Islam is the best? i.e. (Who is a very good Muslim)?" He replied, "One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands."
Narrated Abu Musa.
